Sociology is one of the main disciplines in social sciences such as history, geography, psychology, law, economics, anthropology and political science.

Our department aims to contribute to the sociological perspectives and accumulation in Turkey by using the basic approaches and methods of sociology, and sociological knowledge produced in Turkey and at the international level. Our department aims to create a flexible, interdisciplinary academic field of activity that is in line with national and international competence level.

Our students are expected to acquire the skills of explaining, understanding and interpreting social processes that seem ordinary and 'natural' in everyday life from a much wider and competent point of view, and to have "sociological imagination" throughout their 4 years of training.

The department will discuss the founding names of sociology and, together with them, contemporary social theorists on the basis of their biographies, works, basic ideas and concepts. In addition, it will produce a knowledge of sociology that can contribute to the sociological analysis of social processes, stagnations and changes, continuity and breaks in relation to the fields of education, culture, politics, religion, history, media, psychology and so on. It is obvious that doing the sociology of contemporary Turkish society will empower our society to make its processes of change and transformation more meaningful.

For this purpose, our department started to admit students in 2013-2014 education year. Teaching language is Turkish.

Graduates from Sociology Department of Namık Kemal University may take admission to graduate level education programs in sociology, other social sciences, educational sciences or economics and administrative sciences both at home and abroad, and may become professionally academician while continuing their academic education. They can also find jobs and develop themselves in all areas where basic social scientific knowledge and sociological perspective can contribute such as education, research, planning, health and social service, management, mass communication, advertising, marketing, public relations and so on.
